before your session

Everything you need to know and nothing to worry about.

Let's start with the easy part: you don't need to bring a single thing.

Every session and event I offer is fully equipped for your comfort  mats, blankets, eye pillows, the works.

Just bring yourself. That's genuinely it.

Now for the science (because I promise it's not just me and a bowl, hoping for the best).

Sound literally slows your brainwaves down, syncing them with the frequencies from the Himalayan bowls and chimes until you drift into that deep, meditative, edge-of-sleep state, without even trying.

It also switches on your vagus nerve, the "rest and digest" one, which is why you leave feeling like you've had a full night's sleep, a good cry, and a lie down, all at once.

Not magic. Just physics, biology, and a bit of ancient wisdom, doing the work while you do absolutely nothing.

Just a few to name, some possible health benefits you may experience. May significatly help reduce stress and anxiety, possibly ease chronic pain, also lower blood pressure and help cardiovascular health. Could improve mood and well being reducing tension, anger, fatigue and irritability .

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Wear something comfortable and warm.

Your body temperature actually drops during sound healing as your nervous system goes into deep rest, so cosy layers and fluffy socks are warmly encouraged.

Phones off, please — truly off.

Not silent. Not on do not disturb. Off. The vibrations from a notification can pull someone out of the deepest, most beautiful part of their experience and I will never forgive a ringtone mid-session. (Kidding. Mostly.)

Arrive 5–10 minutes early.

Once a session begins, I'm unable to welcome latecomers,  not because I'm strict (I'm a mum of three, I understand chaos), but because opening the door mid-session genuinely disrupts everyone already inside. Out of respect for your fellow guests, please be on time. Your nervous system will thank you for the slower arrival anyway.

Hydrate before and after.

Drink water before you arrive and make sure you have some with you afterwards. Sound healing can be surprisingly activating for the body, hydration helps everything land and integrate properly. Think of it as the aftercare your cells are asking for.

That's truly it. If you arrive, lie down and have absolutely no idea what you're doing  you're doing it perfectly.

There is no wrong way to receive sound healing.

THE FACTS  FOR THE SCEPTICS
(AND I LOVE A SCEPTIC)

I know. "Woo" is a word that gets thrown around a lot in wellness.

And look,I get it.

I was once the person raising an eyebrow from the back of the room. But here's what the actual science says about what happens to your brain and body during a sound bath  because this isn't magic. It's biology. (It's also a little bit magic.)

01
Your brain actually
shifts state.

The sounds produced by singing bowls create frequencies that gently guide your brain from its busy, alert beta state (the one running your to-do list) into alpha waves (calm, present) and then theta waves (deep rest, creativity, the state just before sleep). You don't have to do anything to make this happen, the sound does it for you. That's the point.

02
Your nervous system actually relaxes.

Sound healing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, that's the 'rest and digest' mode that most of us spend very little time in. When it kicks in, your heart rate slows, your muscles release tension, your breathing deepens and your body finally gets to do the recovery work it's been waiting to do. It's the biological opposite of stress. And it feels extraordinary.

03
Vibration travels through your whole body

The human body is roughly 60% water  and sound travels through water five times faster than through air. The vibrations from the bowls don't just reach your ears. They move through your tissues, your cells, your bones. That's why people describe feeling the sound as much as hearing it. It's not poetic licence, it's physics.

04
Your cells respond to resonance.

Research into cymatics,  the science of how sound affects physical matter,  shows that specific frequencies create measurable patterns and changes in physical substances. The therapeutic frequencies used in sound healing have been shown to support cellular repair, reduce inflammation markers and promote a measurable sense of calm and clarity. This is why people walk out looking like they've had a week off. They kind of have.

05
It works even when you fall asleep.

One of the questions I get most often is:

"Does it still work if I nod off?" Yes. Absolutely yes. The vibrations continue to travel through the body regardless of whether your conscious mind is present for it. Falling asleep during a sound bath is actually a sign that your body knew exactly what it needed. Consider it a standing ovation from your nervous system.
